Horizon Academy West Staff and Teachers.
Horizon Academy West Charter School provides a second home to many of the students. Its family of learners is deeply concerned for the social, emotional and intellectual welfare of each other. The staff at Horizon Academy sees the school as the most academically progressive site in the city where all ideas are welcomed.
Classroom Teachers – There are 20 classroom teachers, three for grades kindergarten through fifth, and two at sixth. Additional, there are two special education teachers who work in the classrooms; an art teacher, a physical education teacher, and a librarian aide.
Percent of Teachers with MA’s – Just over 42% (10:24 ) of the teachers have a Masters degree; with an additional 40% (4:10) currently enrolled course work towards the MA.
Average Years Experience - Teachers – 5.6% years; with 58% (14:24) of the teachers having been with the school since it opened and another 60% (6:10) having been with the school for three of the five years.
Teacher Assistants – There are six teacher assistants, one assigned to each kindergarten classroom, one assigned to special education, and two for 1st grade.
Other – The school has a fulltime Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) and a part-time Occupational Therapist (OT) who works in the kindergarten classrooms 1 hour each day, in addition to working with students on their caseload. Additionally, the site has a part-time educational diagnostician.
Endorsements – There are a varied assortment of endorsements among the certified teaching staff. Among them are TESOL (2), Reading (1), Bilingual (2), Social Studies (1), Science (1), and Math (1)
