History
Horizon Academy West been operating since 2003 and has made Average Yearly Performance (AYP) each year of operation. During the first five years of operation, HAW was authorized by the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS), the charter has recently been renewed and the school is currently operating under the New Mexico Public Education Commission (NM PEC); one of the first 4 schools to be chartered under the state. One of the major strength of the school is the school community. The community created at HAW consists of teachers, students, family members, administration staff, and governing council members all striving for student success inside and outside the classroom. Our student population of approximately 440 students includes recent immigrants, residents of public housing developments and offspring of active military personnel and UNM professors.
