Frequently Asked Questions
Why must I furnish a doctor’s note when my child misses school for
three straight days?
It only takes one
child to cause an outbreak!
With the rise in
reported cases of MRSA and with such a young population, it’s
critical that everyone follow our simple policy surrounding medical
release. Second, we enforce this practice because many of our
families travel by air, bus, or other public conveyances to
international destinations; taking extended vacations and or using
school calendar days in fulfillment of organized sports activities.
You may also be aware that some parents have chosen to opt out of
vaccinating their children. As you can wonder, all of these
activities may pose certain health risks that could threaten our
entire school community. We would rather be safe than sorry.
Why must I call my child in when I’ve already notified the office or
teacher? You
should only call the Attendance Office at extension 156, period.
They will notify other appropriate internal parties, if necessary.
Why does Horizon make a big deal about late arrivals, and why are
children punished for it when it’s not their fault?
|
We have a rigorous
curriculum to impart leaving no time to waste. For argument sakes, suppose
90 percent of our student body arrived late – can you imagine the disruptive
atmosphere? More, we hold students accountable and parents responsible- it’s
about resetting social norms.
Do you really call CYFD on parents?
We have established
constructive and purposeful relationships with myriad agencies including Law
Enforcement, Child Welfare, and the Office of the Bernalillo County District
Attorney. Whomever we call, they know we mean business!
When a child gets in big trouble, will they face automatic suspension?
Rarely are children suspended. On those occasions warranting suspension, 90
percent of the time, it is because either mediation failed or there was a
violent or criminal act committed. •
